Free Lemons!

I have always loved this greeting! In fact, it's the main reason I bought this stamp set from Simon Says Stamp. To me, it just gives a new (and funny!) outlook on an old saying. So I decided it would make a good pick-me-up card for someone at MD Anderson Cancer Center--especially someone with a good sense of humor! Yes, this is another card for "Hope You Can Cling To." This time, the challenge is "Show Me Your Scars." Basically, tear or otherwise distress part of your card.

I stamped the greeting in the lower left corner of a piece of white cardstock, cut to 4.25x5.5", in Versafine Onyx Black ink. I used my MISTI to line up the glass next to it, and stamped that in Hero Arts Soft Granite ink. I then stamped the lemonade in Hero Arts Lemon Yellow. I repeated these to stamp the other glass. For the straw, I used Hero Arts Pale Tomato. I did a bit of mirror-image stamping to get the straw for the left glass, since the stamp in the set only faces one way, & I wanted them to face each other. I ended up going over that with a fine-point red marker, since the stamped image stamped ended up being pretty faded. Finally, I added some ice cubes, with Soft Granite.

It was about this point that I realized my images really had nothing to do with the greeting. There is a stamp in that set that says "make lemonade," which I suppose is the one that's supposed to go with the glasses of lemonade. But, rather than scrap my card (and because I really did like the glasses), I took the lemon stamp from the set and stamped that a few times in Lemon Yellow, adding shading by rolling it in Hero Arts Butter Bar ink and stamping again. Dilemma solved!

For the "scar" portion of my card, I sketched an arc across the top of my panel, and tore along the line. I erased my pencil marks in the few places they still showed, and rolled the torn edge down.

I used the whole lemon slice stamp to stamp the background, again in Lemon Yellow. I only had to stamp 2 rows, since my focal panel would cover up most of the background. Because of the graphic nature of this stamp, it was pretty easy just to eyeball the placement, and line up my lemons. Finally, I adhered the focal panel to the background with my ATG adhesive, and mounted that to a white A2 card base.

I'm also entering my card in Through the Craft Room Door's challenge: "Anything Goes."
