Hummingbird & Flowers

The sketch for Week 5's "By Design" class at Camp Scrap is simple: draw a line, either vertically or horizontally across your project, and have everything touch that line. I made a slight alteration, since I decided to have my line go diagonally. But the principle is the same.

I started with Our Daily Bread Designs' "Hummingbird" stamp. I stamped it on watercolor paper using "Putty" Colorbox Archival Dye Ink, since this would give a light image that would not bleed. After cutting it with the coordinating die, I colored it with Inktense pencils, and blended the color out with my water brush. (I had to search online for pictures of hummingbirds, to get a general idea of what colors to use and where, so it would look at least somewhat realistic.)

For the flowers and foliage, I used stamps and dies from this Simon Says Stamp set. I stamped the flowers on watercolor paper in the same Putty ink and colored them also with Inktense pencils. For the leaves, I just stamped them on the watercolor paper with Distress inks in Mowed Lawn & Peeled Paint. Finally, I die cut all the pieces.

I started my card construction by sponging Distress inks in Tumbled Glass and Broken China onto a white card base, & drew my diagonal line. I placed the flowers and leaves in place on my inked card front, and took a photo, so I could more easily recreate the design. Then I replaced the elements, gluing them down as I went. After I'd adhered all the flowers and leaves, I finished by gluing down the hummingbird & trimming the flower parts that were hanging over the edges of the card.

I'm entering this card in the following challenges:

Our Daily Bread Designs "Sponging or Stencils"
Simon Says Stamp's Wednesday "Anything Goes"
Simon Says Stamp's Work It Wednesday: "Blue"
